EVA hot melt adhesives contain Ethyl-Vinyl Acetate (EVA), while PO hot melt adhesives contain Polyolefin and PUR hot melt adhesives contain polyurethane reactive technology. EVA hot melt is frequently used for edgebanding because it is easy to use, however, PUR is quickly becoming popular because of its exceptional advantages. In case joints require water or heat resistance (like fire doors or kitchen cabinets), it is suggested to use PUR adhesive as it offers much better water and heat resistance than EVA adhesive. Polyolefin-derived adhesives for edgebanding have superior hydrolysis and heat resistance compared to EVA-based adhesives. It is simpler to use than PUR adhesives and offers improved stability in the melting equipment compared to standard EVA-based adhesives, while also lowering the chance of banding in the application unit.

PUR adhesives will consistently surpass the performance of EVA or PO adhesives. EVA hot melt adhesives can be categorized as either filled or unfilled adhesives. Filled adhesives are usually cheaper and contain fillers like chalk, in addition to adhesive resins, which can aid in preventing wire drawing at low speeds.

Thinner applications of unfilled hot melt adhesives can result in a stronger bond due to a tighter application, resulting in increased glue longevity and high ultimate bond strength. Chemical crosslinking occurs in a few days when utilizing PUR-based adhesives. It is crucial to keep the bonded materials stored above 15°C to ensure complete curing; if the temperature drops below 15°C, the curing process will halt.

Some edgebanders do not have the capability to use PUR adhesives. The rapid spread of PUR hardware is limited by its expensive price. It is crucial to clean the adhesive melting tank and applicator (nozzle/roller) with a suitable cleaning agent after using PUR adhesives, as they do not remelt once cured, unlike EVA adhesives.
